Door Installation Information

Rough Openings
These doors can be installed directly into concrete, steel or structural wood. Also, they can be installed using wood bucks properly fastened to a concrete.

Directly Anchored to Substrate
If you decide to install the door frame, including door jambs and door header, directly into the substrate, the maximum shim space allowed or permitted int the product approval is 1/4 inch. So, a rough opening will be 1/4-inch taller than the door height and 1/2-inch wider than the door width. All dimensions are called tip-to-tip, that is, taking into account the door frame.

Using Wood Bucks
If the door installer is planning to use wood bucks, the rough opening or masonry opening calculation must include the depth of the wood buck used. It is very common to use a 1x6 pressure-treated wood buck which measures 3/4-inch x 5 1/2-inch.
